The City of Campbell River adopted the Official Community Plan on February 21, 2012, under Bylaw 3475, 2012. In 2017 the Official Community Plan was updated and split into four schedules.

What Is an Official Community Plan?

As outlined in the Province’s Local Government Act, an official community plan is a statement of objectives and policies to guide decisions on planning and land use management, within the area covered by the plan, respecting the purposes of local government. A Sustainable Official Community Plan (SOCP) addresses the scope of an Official Community Plan and also integrates the three pillars of sustainability – economy, society and culture environment.

The Plan sets direction in areas such as preservation of the environment, economic development, land use planning, growth management, housing, infrastructure, transportation, energy and emissions management, open space planning, social and cultural aspects of our community, community facilities and services, and the agriculture system. This Plan offers a 50-year vision of the community, to ensure Campbell River remains vital and moves towards a sustainable community. It will guide City Council in making land use and development decisions.
