• How do I find out what positions are available at the City?

  All available positions are listed under Employment Opportunities on our website.

• Who should I address my cover letter to?

  A number of individuals are involved in each recruitment process so we request that you address your cover letter to: Human Resources Personnel.

• What is the hiring process?

  After an employment competition closes, resumes are shortlisted based on the necessary qualifications for the position advertised.   Meeting the minimum qualifications of the posting does not automatically mean that you will be short listed for the position posted, as all applicants are assessed on a competitive basis.

  When a vacancy falls within the collective bargaining unit, first consideration is given to permanent, qualified employees. 

  Short listed candidates are contacted by telephone and/or email for any job related testing.  Individuals who meet or exceed the minimum pass score may then be invited to return for a panel interview. 

  Short listed candidates are typically contacted one to three weeks after the competition closing date.  

• What can I expect during the interview?

  We frequently ask behavioural based questions when conducting our interviews. 

• Do I have to take any tests as part of the recruitment process?

  Each recruitment process may be different, but as a general rule we employ testing in different capacities as part of our recruitment process.

• Does the City accept general (unsolicited)resumes and how long to resumes stay on file?

  The City of Campbell River only accepts resumes for open competitions, that is, any position which has been advertised and for which we are actively recruiting. General applications are not accepted nor kept on file for future consideration.

• Does the City of Campbell River require potential candidates to go through a criminal record search?

  All positions that deal with, or come into contact with, vulnerable individuals require a current satisfactory criminal record and vulnerability sector check prior to an offer of employment being made.

  All civilian positions located at he RCMP detachment require an enhanced search prior to an offer of employment being made.

• How can I find out about the status of the position I applied for?

  Positions usually take about four to six weeks to fill. Resumes are usually shortlisted within two weeks of the competition's close, and candidates who are moving on to testing or preliminary interviews are contacted shortly after. All candidates will be notified if they are moving forward or not within the competition.

• I have applied for several positions with the City of Campbell River and haven’t been hired. What can I do to improve my chances of finding employment with the City?

  Every competition is considered separately.  The number of positions you apply for does not increase your opportunity for being hired.  We encourage all interested applicants to apply for positions if they are qualified.  Every applicant will be given equal consideration in the hiring process.

• If I've previously submitted an application, will I automatically be considered for other positions?

  No. You must submit separate resumes for each position you are interested in, and your application is evaluated on how well your training and experience match the particular position for which you are applying.
