The City of Campbell River has a Downtown Revitalization Tax Exemption Bylaw  that is intended to promote revitalization of specified areas in the downtown core by providing a tax break for new construction or redevelopment of existing buildings.

The initial bylaw was passed in 2009 with the most recent Bylaw being implemented in 2013.

Any renovation or new construction of multi-family or commercial projects within the defined areas are eligible for some portion of tax exemption from the municipal portion of taxes.

Exemptions

The amount and length of exemption provided through the bylaw is determined by the location, use of the building and type of project.

Multi-Family Residential, Commerical, or Mixed-Use Multi-Family/Commercial Projects
  • 100% exemption from municipal taxes for new construction, or
  • 100% exemption from municipal taxes of increased value from renovated buildings, for a period of 5 years.
LEED Gold or Platinum Projects

For any LEED Gold or Platinum project you would receive:

  • 100% exemption from municipal taxes of increased value from either renovation or new construction, for a period of 7 years.
