Emergency Preparedness

• Where would flooding occur?

  This map shows the expected flood area in the WORST-CASE scenario, which would be a case where one or more dams in the system fail to release water from the reservoir.

• When should I evacuate?

  If there is an earthquake, DO NOT wait for official notice to evacuate. Evacuate immediately if you feel shaking strong enough to make it difficult to stand, objects fall, or there is any visible damage to structures around you.

  IF IT KNOCKS YOU DOWN, GO TO HIGH GROUND!

  During periods of high flood risk, stay informed by monitoring our social media page and listening to local radio stations. When possible, notifications will be sent to cell phones and landlines using Alertable.

• BE PREPARED!

  • Know your evacuation routes from home and work (see map)

  • Know your designated reception centre.

  • Practice your plan! This is especially important for children.

  • Keep your plan updated with current contact information etc.

  • Learn first aid including CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

  • Prepare an emergency kit.

  • When instructed to do so, register at a reception centre for aid and to be reunited with family.

  • Grab your emergency kit if it is accessible.

  • Do NOT return to an unsafe area to retrieve emergency kits or other belongings.

  • Use designated evacuation routes.

  • Follow instructions from authorities. 

  • Tune into local media for updates.

  From this map, find your zone location and follow the directions below

  Zone 1A - Evacuation Map

  • Start on Highway 28 and head northeast to Detweiler Rd.
  • Turn right (southbound) onto Detweiler Rd. toward Quinsam Rd.
  • Turn right onto Quinsam Rd. and immediately turn left onto Nursery Rd. to Eagle Dr.
  • Turn left onto Eagle Dr. to Willis Rd. Turn left onto Willis Rd. to Highway 19.

  Zone 1B - Evacuation Map 

  • Start on Highway 28 and head south to Argonaut Rd.
  • Turn left onto Argonaut Rd. and northeast towards Quinsam Rd.
  • Turn right onto Quinsam Rd. and immediately turn left onto Nursery Rd. to Eagle Dr.
  • Turn left onto Eagle Dr. to Willis Rd.
  • Turn left onto Willis Rd. to Highway 19.

  Zone 2 - Evacuation Map

  • Head towards Detweiler or Quinsam Rd.
  • Turn onto Nursery Rd. to Eagle Dr.
  • Turn left onto Eagle Dr. to Willis Rd.
  • Turn left onto Willis Rd. to Highway 19.

  Zone 3 - Evacuation Map

  • This zone will evacuate northbound on Highway 19.
  • Traffic should not be permitted to cross southbound on Highway 19.

  Zone 4 - Evacuation Map

  • This zone will evacuate westbound on Highway 19A starting at Maple Street to Highway 19.
  • Traffic can also be evacuated westbound on 16th Ave to Highway 19.
  • Traffic can be routed southbound on Petersen Rd. to westbound Willis Rd to  Highway 19 or alternately eastbound on Homewood to 9th Ave. to Dogwood Street.

  Zone 5 - Evacuation Map

  • This zone will evacuate eastbound on Highway 19 at Maple Street.
  • Eastbound on 16 Ave at Maple Street to southbound Dogwood Street.
  • Eastbound on Homewood Rd. / 9th Ave to southbound Dogwood Street.
  • Southbound on Cedar St. to Shoppers Row/Highway 19 south.
