The Community Planning & Development Services department provides a single point of service related to uses of private property, development and building projects, environmental services, and the City’s sustainability and long range planning initiatives.  Services provided include:

  • Business Licensing
  • Building Permits and Inspections
  • Development Servicing
  • Current planning —Development Applications (OCP amendment, rezoning, subdivision, development permits, variance permits and ALR applications)
  • Long Range Planning
  • Climate Action Charter compliance and energy/greenhouse gas reduction planning
  • Environmental management, stewardship and protection of natural resources
  • Management of solid waste program
  • Implementation of the City’s Integrated Community Sustainability Plan

Development – One Stop Shop

For all development related activity within the community, the Community Planning and Development Services Department has evolved into a one-stop service department to assist you with your development proposal. By combining short and long-range planning with building, development engineering and business licensing responsibilities, the Development Services Department will be able to assist you with all aspects of your proposal. The Development Review Committee, made up of various departmental staff, meets every two weeks, and provides an opportunity for you to present your development proposal before submitting formal applications. To assess what applies to your proposal please set up an appointment for a pre-application meeting with the Development Services Staff who will be happy to assist you.
