Inter-Municipal Business Licence applications are available!
If your business does work or provides services throughout communities in the Central Vancouver Island area, then an Inter-Municipal Business Licence may make it easier and more cost effective to do business.
Prior to the development of the Inter-Municipal Business Licence Program, a business was required to obtain a separate business licence for each municipality in which they operate. With this program, qualifying businesses will only have to obtain two business licences - one in their home municipality, and the other an Inter-Municipal Business Licence.
This makes it faster and easier for local businesses by streamlining the licence approval process, and more cost effective by eliminating the need for more than two licence fees. The cost of a primary business licence in the City of Campbell River is $150, and the Inter-Municipal Business Licence is an additional $150.
Inter-Municipal Business Licences are valid in the City of Campbell River and in these Central Vancouver Island communities: the Cities of Courtenay, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville and Port Alberni, the Districts of North Cowichan and Lantzville, the Towns of Comox, Lake Cowichan, Ladysmith and Qualicum Beach, and the Village of Cumberland.
What kind of businesses are eligible?
Businesses that provide services in multiple communities, or do business by moving from client to client where the business does not have a storefront or physical location outside of their home or principal community. This includes businesses such as trades, landscaping services, janitorial services, pest control services, registered massage therapists, mechanics, photographers, hairdressers and many others.
Businesses selling goods or services from a fixed or semi-fixed location are not eligible for this type of licence. These include, but are not limited to, fruit stands, road side vendors, mobile stores, flea markets, carnivals, concession stands, or trade shows.
