DOWNTOWN TREE POLLARDING SCHEDULED FOR February 26, 27 and March 5, 6, 2023

Tree PrunningAs part of the annual street tree maintenance program, the City will be pollarding the London planes trees along Shoppers Row and Pier Street. Pollarding is a method of pruning used by the City that cuts back all branches to help control the size of the tree and limit the reach of the canopy, which promotes dense foliage and sturdier branches to withstand high winds. This was last done in 2021. Following this year’s pruning, the London plane trees will be back in full leaf by early summer. All other downtown street trees will be pruned using standard methods.

Pruning will occur on February 26 and 27 and on March 5 and 6, 2023; the City selected Sunday and Monday to minimize disruption to local businesses. During the tree pruning work, the public can expect minor traffic delays, and portions of the sidewalk will be closed. Select parking stalls will also be temporarily allocated for equipment.
