CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT OPENING ITS DOORS FOR TWO EVENTS IN MAY

The City of Campbell River (the City) Fire Department is hosting two public education events in May 2024. Both events will take place at the #1 Fire Station, located at 675 13th Avenue.

    Wildfire Preparedness Day: Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This free event is a great opportunity to learn more about the threats of wildfire and get tips to help you and your neighbours FireSmart your homes and reduce wildfire risks.

Stop by for a hot dog, check out the City Fire Department’s specialized wildfire equipment, watch a demonstration of the City’s structural protection equipment, and learn about some of the simple things you can do to protect your home and neighbourhood, including taking advantage of the City’s free FireSmart Home Assessment Program.

“Wildfire preparedness has become increasingly important in British Columbia,” says Shawn Hall, FireSmart Coordinator. “FireSmart principles have shown that they are effective at reducing the risk to life and property in the most extreme wildfire conditions and we are excited to welcome residents to Fire Hall #1 to show them around and share this important information.”

    Fire Hall Open House: Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This free, family-friendly event provides fun and exciting opportunities for the public to learn more about the City Fire Department and fire safety. Explore the Fire Safety House, practice your aim with a fire hose, try out hydraulic power tools, get lifted high in the sky by the tower truck, watch live rescue demonstrations by our firefighters, or just come say “hi” and have a hotdog.

“The Campbell River Fire Department does amazing work to keep our community safe,” says Fire Chief Dan Verdun. “Our annual open houses are fantastic opportunities to meet our firefighters and dispatchers and to see demonstrations of some of the skills we use when we respond to emergencies. Visitors can even get hands-on and discover what it’s like to use some of our tools and equipment. These events are lot of fun for staff and visitors alike, and we look forward to seeing you at the Fire Hall on May 11 for this year’s open house!”
