Clocks will ‘fall back’ by one hour when Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 6, 2022. The City of Campbell River Fire Department reminds residents to change their smoke alarm batteries during the time change.
Working smoke alarms help keep you, your family and your property safe and increase the chance of surviving a house fire. By replacing smoke alarm batteries with the time change, you help ensure your alarms are ready.
You may have as little as one or two minutes to escape a fire, so early detection from a smoke alarm is critical. Working smoke alarms in the proper locations, as per the British Columbia Building Code, will give you the most time to escape a house fire. Have a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area, and on each floor of your home. Follow the “once-a-month, once-a-year, once-a-decade” rule. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month, replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year, and replace smoke alarms at least every ten years.
