4TH AVENUE REOPENED FOLLOWING STRUCTURE FIRE

The scene is now secure. No injuries were reported.

The City of Campbell River Fire Department attended a non-residential structure fire in the 400 block of 4th Avenue that began at approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 17, 2024.

The building was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. The fire did not spread to neighbouring buildings, but a nearby residence was evacuated as a precaution.

4th Avenue was closed to vehicle traffic in the interest of public safety and to allow access for emergency responders. The fire scene is now secure and the road has been re-opened to the public. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

“Approximately 30 career and paid-on-call firefighters responded, working diligently to manage this fire,” says Assistant Fire Chief Stephanie Bremer. “Campbell River's dedicated career firefighters and paid-on-call firefighters work alongside one another to support the entire Fire Department's efforts to safeguard our community. Thank you to all the firefighters and to all the employers who allowed paid-on-call firefighters to respond.”

Mutual aid support was provided by the Oyster River Fire Department. The City also thanks the Campbell River RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, School District 72, BC Hydro, Laichwiltach Family Life Society and the Wei Wai Kum and We Wai Kai First Nations for their support during this event.
