    Baikie Island in brief:

    Located in the Campbell River estuary, Baikie Island’s natural state was degraded through 100 years of industrial activity.

    The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) purchased Baikie Island in 2000 thanks to generous donors and wide-reaching community support.

    In 2001, ownership transferred to the City of Campbell River, under a conservation covenant to protect and manage the area as the Baikie Island Nature Reserve.

    Restoration work led by the City of Campbell River began in 2003 and included creation of wildlife habitat, planting more than 5,000 native trees and shrubs, removing invasive species and building a recreational trail.

    Baikie Island Nature Reserve provides many ecological, educational, recreational and economic benefits to the community of Campbell River.
