Food and agriculture have emerged as significant focus areas for community resiliency and long-term sustainability. Communities are looking at how planning for resilient food and agriculture systems benefit the local economy and overall community health. In 2010, the City of Campbell River developed an Agriculture Plan and incorporated food system targets into the development of the Sustainable Official Community Plan to support public interest in local food programs and the start-up of an agriculture sector in Campbell River. This planning process identified that there is significant opportunity for agriculture in Campbell River.
