Curbside Collection Changes in 2026

In the Spring of 2026, the City will transition from manual to automated curbside collection services. Automated collection uses trucks with mechanical arms to lift and dump standardized bins placed at the curbside. The new, automated service will follow a four-day, bi-weekly collection schedule for garbage and recycling. Organics collection will transition to an automated four-day service but remain on a weekly schedule. Residents will receive three new bins sized at 360L for organics and recycling, and 180L for garbage. Households will be provided with an opportunity to exchange their bins for smaller containers or to purchase additional bins if needed.

Information on the transition to an automated curbside collection service will be shared with all residents in the summer and fall of 2025 and into 2026.

Curbside waste collection schedule

Is there any change to the type or amount of material picked up at the curb?
Limits for garbage remain at 80 litres.
Unlimited recycling material will continue to be collected at curbside if packaged properly.

A 360-litre limit, per household, per week, is in place for the Organics Curbside Collection program. As food and yard waste can be quite heavy, here are our container size and weight limitations:
- Cans should be maximum 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Each container should not exceed 121 litres in size.
- Provided green bins are for daily indoor disposal and are not to be used for curbside collection.

Why did some neighbourhoods join different collection routes/days?

To enhance service. Currently, some routes cover more territory and collect more waste than others. By balancing out the area and amounts, we reduce the chance of pickup delays due to high volume. The current collection routes.
What about statutory holidays?

There is no curbside collection on statutory holidays.

If the statutory holiday falls on a week day, collection moves one day forward after each statutory holiday.

If the statutory holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday – there is NO change to the collection schedule.

Weekly garbage, recycling and organics collection are on the same day.
The City provides weekly organics collection for both single-family and duplex homes.
