WATERMAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECTS

Work under these renewal projects consists of installing new watermains and domestic services throughout Campbell River. These new mains are to replace the sections of the water distribution system that have reached the end of their useful service life.

Beginning mid to late March, depending upon weather, we will be completing upgrades of the watermain on Hilchey Rd. between Dalton Rd. and Hwy. 19A. This work will include excavation of the roadway and relocation of water services up to your property line. The contractor will be restoring disturbed areas upon completion of the project.

Work is targeted for completion by the end of April, 2023, followed by paving and road marking restoration.

You can expect work to be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The design work was completed under a design-bid-build model by the City’s Capital Projects and Water Departments. The construction contract was awarded to Wacor Holdings Ltd.

We anticipate changes to the flow of local traffic during construction. A traffic management plan will be reviewed by the City and implemented by Wacor Holdings Ltd. at the start of the project.

Road Closure Newsletter

A partial road closure will be in effect on Hilchey Road between Dalton Road and the Island Highway on Monday, May 1, and Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Intermittent single-lane alternating traffic will be in place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to facilitate pavement repairs. Delays may occur. Please follow all traffic controls in place.

New Bike Lane Installation is scheduled to begin the week of September 19, 2022. Follow all signage in place, and proceed with caution in the work area. Drivers are reminded to drive with care and attention during and after the work, and not to park in the bike lane.

The City will be completing some temporary asphalt paving on Hilchey Road between Dalton Road and the South Island Highway on Monday, September 26, 2022, to repair some disturbed road surfaces from construction activities on Hilchey Road. Please expect some disruptions to traffic. Traffic control personnel and signage will be in place.

What is a lift? A lift is a layer of asphalt mix laid in a single application then compacted.

The contractor, Wacor Holdings Ltd. has now expanded their work area to Galerno Road between Hilchey and Simms roads. Work continues on Hilchey with minimal disruption.

Construction has resumed today!

Approval has been attained from the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations to resume work following the midden find. Work will commence September 7th.

The project has been halted as a midden (archaeological find) has been found during excavation.

Final design for Fir Street is underway.  City Council approved the continuation of this project in the 2018 Budget Deliberations.  

This project is currently on hold due to other strategic priorities.

Council Approves Award of Tender 16-34 to JR Edgett Excavating Ltd.
