City crews are continuing to clear roads, following yesterday's storm.

In the afternoon, intense rain and high tides caused localized flooding in some parts of Campbell River, followed by snowfall and freezing temperatures overnight.

Crews combatted flooding downtown by clearing clogged catch basins. When the snow fell, the full force of sand trucks and plows came out to keep roads clear. Today, crews are working to minimize icy road conditions.

Last night, the quick accumulation of snow (and vehicles that became stuck or involved in accidents) caused traffic delays. In some cases, temporary road closures allowed vehicles to be removed from hills, so that road crews could properly remove the snow. By early evening, the snow began to slow and the major routes were once again open. Later in the evening secondary (bus) routes were the focus. City crews were back out early this morning, making main roads as safe as possible for this morning's commute and are now working their way through town clearing residential streets.

People can help prevent flooding as the snow starts to melt by keeping catch basins clear of snow and debris.
