This section will provide you with information and links for the upcoming local government election which will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018 - 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Local Government Elections are held every four years on the third Saturday of October in accordance with the Local Government Act and Campbell River's Election Bylaw No. 3356. The next local government election will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m.

On Election Day the citizens of Campbell River will elect one (1) candidate for the position of Mayor; six (6) candidates for the position of Councillor and will vote for five (5) School Trustee candidates (for information about the School District #72 Trustee election contact the School District).

To qualify as a candidate for local government office, at the time of nomination a person must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • Canadian Citizen;
  • Resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • Not disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office.


The City of Campbell River will be using the most recent Provincial list of voters as our list of registered resident voters which means that if you are registered to vote in the next Provincial election your name will automatically appear on the City of Campbell River’s list. On-line registrations or updates will need to be made before August 29, 2018 in order for them to appear on the voters list that the Province sends to the City. If your name does not appear on this list you will still be able to register to vote at your voting place on October 20, 2018.

Beginning Tuesday, September 4, 2018, until the close of general voting for the Election, a copy of the list of registered electors will, upon signature, be available for public inspection at Campbell River City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mon - Fri (excluding statutory holidays). An elector may request that their address or other information about them be omitted from or obscured on the list of electors.

An objection to the registration of a person whose name appears on the list of registered electors may be made in accordance with the Local Government Act until 4:00 p.m. September 14, 2018. An objection must be in writing and may only be made by a person entitled to be registered as an elector in the City of Campbell River and can only be made on the basis that the person whose name appears has died or is not qualified to be registered as an elector of the City of Campbell River.


  • In order to be eligible to vote, must be a resident of BC six months prior to the election

  • Deadline for challenge of nominations [4:00 p.m. on October 14, 2018].
  • Election Candidate Orientation Session - Council Chambers September 20, 2018 - 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Deadline for withdrawal of candidates and withdrawal of elector organization endorsement
    [4:00 p.m. on September 21, 2018].
  • Declaration of election by voting (press release/website) [4:00 p.m. on September 24, 2018]

  • Preliminary Results will be announced at Campbell River City Hall following the close of polls. Results will also be provided to Shaw and CivicInfo BC  October 20, 2018
  • Official results will be announced at noon on Tuesday, October 23, 2018
