WFT Sewer Part 2_IconThe waterfront sewer main, built in 1972, is a critical piece of infrastructure that needs to be replaced to support new growth in the community and help protect the waterfront. Work on Phase 1 of the Waterfront Sewer Project was completed in December 2018, and included installation of a new sewer main between the Maritime Heritage Centre and 1st Avenue.

Work on Part 2 of the project is now complete for 2019. In summer 2019, the project team encountered a site of archaeological interest (a midden) which placed further construction on hold as the site is assessed and permitting is completed. Work is expected to begin again in the first quarter of 2020, first finishing the pipe installation and then moving forward with two new lift stations scheduled to be constructed.
